Traffic that you own
I’ve been reading DotCom secrets, and Russell knows the importance of a newsletter.
Throughout the book, he gives reminders of how important a list really is.
But why is it like that?
Why are you important to me?
Well, I own you.
Kidding.
But this is called traffic you own.
Which means I can sell you stuff without spending any money on it.
It is by far the most important out of the 3 types of traffic there is.
Let’s give you an idea of the 3 types of traffic, it will help you understand biz.
1. The traffic you control (not own)
Controlling traffic is different from owning traffic.
When you control traffic when you have the ability to tell it where to go (through paid ads).
For example, if I purchase an ad on Google, I don’t own that traffic (Google does), but I can control it by buying an ad and then sending those who click on that ad anywhere I want. Any kind of paid traffic is traffic you control, including the following:
Email ads (solo ads, banners, links, mentions)
Pay-per-click ads (Facebook, Google, Yahoo, etc.)
Banner ads
Native ads
Affiliates and joint ventures
The only downside of traffic that you control, is that you need to spend more money whenever you want to reach more people.
So, essentially you want to turn that traffic to traffic you control by sending them over to your landing page for your newsletter.
2. Traffic you don’t control
This is just random traffic that you don’t own. Pretty straightforward (I know).
For example, if someone mentions your name or product/service and somebody searches it up and opt-in to your newsletter or buy a product/service from you - you don’t control that.
Examples of traffic you don’t control:
Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.)
Search traffic (search engine optimization or SEO)
Guest blog traffic
YouTube
Guest interviews
Now, just like traffic that I control, my ONLY goal with traffic that I don’t control is also to turn it into traffic that I own.
3. Traffic you own
The traffic you own is the MOST important traffic.
Why?
You can sell at any given time and gain back pure profit.
1 of the best ways to do so is by building a list (newsletter).
The benefits are crazy, and if you aren’t aware of them - poor you.
You’re missing out.
All in all, you simply want to convert every type of traffic to traffic you OWN (with a squeeze page).
By having this newsletter I’ve made a good amount of money and even gotten inbound leads.
In fact, over 40% of the guys here have bought something from me.
Pure profit.
You literally have no excuse to not have a newsletter.
And if you think creating a high-converting welcome sequence is hard.
Don’t stress it.
I’ll do it for you while you focus on other important aspects of your brand.
