Day 5 - Use Short Simple Words
When people first start off writing copy… they tend to make one common mistake.
People mistake copy for “normal” writing.
You know? The formal overly fancy way of communicating.
In some cases that is needed. But in 99% of cases it’s not.
Your big fancy words impress no one but your ego.
And more often they do more harm than good.
I’ll even say that they annoy and distract the reader from what you’re actually trying to say…
So Cut It Out (if you want to sell more)
In sales copy you have one objective; to communicate with people—not impress or boost your ego.
The words in your copy should be like the windows in a store.
The reader should be able to see right through them and see the shiny product or service you offer.
But there’s another reason why small words are better than big fancy words…
Think about it.
Chances are. Most of your audience isn’t fluent in English.
By writing in a simpler style of English… you’re able to persuade a lot more people leading to a lot more sales.
AND—the best-educated people will find it even easier to read through it.
Win-win situation. Right?
In other words. Don’t try to boost your own ego.
Cut out fancy words (unless those you’re targeting are some overly fancy people) and make it clear and simple to read.
