Day 10 - Be A Bro
The problem isn’t that people don’t like to read.
We read.
ALL the time.
I’m not talking about picking up a book type of reading.
But this email. tweets. And whatnot.
The problem is that it is either difficult, not interesting, or BORING.
If your writing is easy to understand. Clear. And simple… people will enjoy it.
And the best way to write is;
Write Like You’re Talking To A Friend
This is also called conversational tone for you nerds.
This is important in marketing.
Think of these words as a selling voice note. Like a substitute for a salesperson.
Would you want your salesperson to sound like a robot?
Or would you like him to mirror you and talk in your style with the words you use?
Exactly.
The same goes when you write copy.
Conversational style is much easier to read than some formal bs.
When you write simply. You become your reader’s friend.
How do you do it?
When you’ve made the copy. Look over. And ask:
Would these words ever come out of my mouth in a normal conversation?
No? Change it.
Yes? Good job.
Quick tips:
Use simple words
Use pronouns - I, We, You, They
Use contractions - it’s, you’re, we’ve
If you must choose between writing naturally and grammatically. Choose naturally.
